The Birth of the Original Spiral Head
Following extensive research for a high-quality practice dragon staff—one offering precise balance, controlled rotational inertia, and a visually satisfying motion—no existing solution met the required standards. This led to the development of a new design, built from an engineering-driven approach.
The result was the Original Spiral Head: a perfectly balanced form with a unique geometry, generating a mesmerizing optical effect in motion. Tested through travel, performances, and workshops, the design consistently revealed a distinctive feel, immediately recognized by practitioners.
Encouraged by the community, production began and the design was shared more widely. The spiral form draws inspiration from the work of Leonardo Fibonacci and the natural patterns derived from his sequence, creating a visual signature that is both organic and hypnotic in motion.
This marked the beginning of Flowbonacci.
The Gyro Staff Concept
Through practice, a key principle quickly emerged: rotational inertia plays a fundamental role in dragon staff control and stability. Much like a spinning top or a diabolo, rotation generates balance through gyroscopic effect—an insight that became central to the Flowbonacci design philosophy.
This led to the development of the Tri-Ying disc-shaped heads, inspired by the Yin-Yang symbol. Their geometry enhances rotational stability while producing a smooth, floating sensation in motion.
The concept was later refined with the Tri-Ying Legacy, maintaining the same performance foundation while introducing a more advanced aesthetic direction. Developed with the input of a professional designer, it features a highly refined silhouette and textured surface, bringing a distinctly premium visual identity to the Flowbonacci range.
The Flowbonacci Dedication
All Flowbonacci products are manufactured in Spain, ensuring full control over every stage of the production process and consistent quality across each piece.
Continuous improvement remains at the core of the project, with each evolution guided by real-world use and feedback from dragon staff practitioners.
A Flowbonacci is not simply a prop, but a true flow arts instrument—designed with the same intention as a finely crafted musical instrument, made to be brought to life through movement.
When you choose a Flowbonacci, you do not simply buy a Dragon Staff — you become part of a project that pushes the boundaries of dragon staff practice and contributes to its evolution.
BIO
I discovered juggling at the age of 15 through diabolo, and it quickly became a regular part of my life. After completing an engineering degree in France in 2001, I moved to Tahiti, where I lived and worked for 14 years. During that time, I explored different flow arts props, and in 2013 I discovered the dragon staff. I started practicing consistently and gradually developed my own approach.
In 2014, I joined “Te Tama Ahi,” a Tahitian fire dance company, and performed in hotels, festivals, and cultural events across Polynesia. These experiences helped shape my understanding of performance and movement.
I returned to Europe in 2016 and chose to focus entirely on dragon staff. I began teaching at juggling conventions, flow festivals, and retreats, while continuing to perform and to explore the technical aspects and evolution of the discipline.
In 2017, I founded Flowbonacci, a brand dedicated to premium dragon staff equipment, combining my engineering background with my experience as a spinner.
Today, I focus on refining my designs, continuing my research-based practice of dragon staff, and sharing tutorials with the community.
